Vlog #1 & Other News

by justin on January 15th, 2008

Well, Ara is away on his much-needed ten-day vacation, so I figured I’d pass the time with a little post to keep y’all informed on what’s been going on. It’s been a long time since our last news story. With the holidays and all, we have been in different parts of the country spending time with our families. One great thing about the way our band does business is that we allow ourselves time off and away from it all, knowing that we’ll get back together and back to work when the time is right. It’s a far cry from the way things used to be in bands past.

Before the break, we had been writing new material for our upcoming second album. We’ve made some good progress but have a long way to go before we’ll be happy with all the material. We’ve invested in Pro Tools so our recordings will sound better than ever. It’ll be a happy day when we get far enough into the process to begin recording. In the meantime, we aim to keep you informed of the latest news via video logs (or vlogs for those of you who are up on your net-speak). To view the latest clips, click our youtube link to the left <-----

Next time we'll use microphones so you'll be able to hear us better. The stories in the clip are all true. I did somehow get vertigo over X-mas break and am just now starting to feel normal again. It's certainly an odd ailment to try and live with. Some lady did also drive her car into my living room. I'm telling you, you can't make this stuff up!

Just a few notes in other news... KALX @ Berkeley has been playing our album, we've been gaining momentum on last.fm radio (mostly in Europe), and have sold a few more records via the internet. It's a wonderful age we live in - bands can (theoretically) make a living off their music without ever having to sign their lives away to a label. We haven't quite gotten to the point of quitting our day jobs, but it's a lofty goal we're setting for ourselves.

And in the meantime, we have booked a small, intimate show at Prince O' Whales in Playa del Rey for Friday, February 1st. The fun begins at 9:30. It's free, and if you have the means, we'd love to see you there!

@ Prince O' Whales

As I mentioned before, we will do our best to keep you updated with progress of the second album. We’ll be posting video clips and maybe some audio samples to keep you entertained until the CD release show. Cross your fingers for late spring / early summer!

Radio Airplay, Podcasts & Shows

by justin on October 16th, 2007

Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up that She’s Not Tangible has been featured on yet another podcast; this one is the TLP Show out of Florida. You can find links to the site as well as the podcast itself along the left side of this page.

Additionally, we have received confirmations from seven college radio stations thus far that they have added our self-titled album in rotation! Great news all around.

And again, we want to give thanks to those that came out to our shows at the Good Hurt and Joxer Daly’s over the past two weeks. It means a lot to us to have such terrific support from our friends, and love the fact that the fanbase is growing by word of mouth. Last Friday, someone came up to me and said that she woke up with our song, Acrobat, in her head. It’s little things like this that make it all worthwhile. We have one more show coming up on November 9th at our home base, Genghis Cohen. It will be our last show before we become hermits once again to write and record the much anticipated follow-up album. We’re as excited as you to see how it will turn out! A lot of really great products are in the works. We’ll try to keep you updated with stories from our lives in the downtime, so keep checking back for the latest StD updates!

As Summer Winds Down

by justin on August 21st, 2007

We’d like to thank those of you who made it out to Molly Malone’s on Saturday. It was a pretty early timeslot, so no hard feelings if you didn’t make it. We’re going to be taking a couple months off, away from performing live so we can concentrate on getting our album out to college radio stations nationwide.

In other news, we found a pretty neat website called ourstage.com. Basically, a bunch of bands and producers upload their music and videos, and get pitted head-to-head against other media in a kind-of ratings system. The stuff that gets rated higher consistently manages to get filtered to the top of the charts. Brutus hit #4 a few weeks ago, but has since been hovering around #20 out of 450+ submissions in the ‘acoustic’ category. We’d tell you to go there and vote for us, but we’re not shameless (and besides, the website doesn’t work that way!)

At any rate, if you haven’t heard the whole album yet - and have yet to get yourself a copy, there are a number of channels to go through to obtain one (or several). Even after working on the album for several months and listening to each song hundreds of times, the record definitely holds up over time. We find ourselves popping it in on occasion and are quite proud of this little creation of ours. It’s the perfect album to pop in your car’s CD player and just drive. We’re not just saying that, it’s something that we’ve discovered ourselves over the past few months.

That being said, we think everybody should have a copy to call their own. We put a lot of hard work into it, and are going to be starting on a new album soon. Get in on the ground floor, we say! So, in case you’ve been missing all of our links, here are the best ways to secure an album:

Amazon: $9.99 for the actual CD
OR
iTunes: $9.90 for the digital files (or $0.99/track)

Oooh! Also! If you *do* perchance happen to buy a CD or the mp3’s, we’d be honored if you’d rate the album and/or write a review. Your words mean more to us than anything we can devise ourselves.

So, while we will be out of the public eye for a bit, we are not going away. We will still be uploading pics/videos/music and checking our myspace regularly. Come back soon, won’t you?

Prince O’ Whales Photos

Big thanks to Jonathan Hawkins for taking some photos of us at last Friday’s show. You can check them out on his photo blog: here.

Once Again

by justin on August 9th, 2007

Thanks to everybody who shared last Friday evening with us. Our show at Prince O’ Whales was a huge success thanks to the great atmosphere, turnout, and audience participation! To those of you who caught the after-party, we want to say that we had a great time chatting and drinking until the wee hours of the morning… cheers! We are already anticipating a return to Playa del Rey for a follow-up stint as the single-night house-band.

While we did make an audio recording of the entire show, there is no way we could release the entire set as a full-length CD and be happy with the sound quality throughout. So now, we’re going to concentrate on about a half-dozen of the tracks, polish them a bit, and release them in some capacity. We’ve started an StD Live Portal on myspace.com (myspace.com/serenadingthedeadalive). This new myspace site will concentrate on our live performances, recordings, video, photos, etc. The tracks recorded last Friday will probably find their way up there in the coming weeks.

Molly Malone's - August 18th

We have a lot of work cut out for ourselves in the coming months; including servicing college radio stations nationwide, starting talks with management firms, etc. It’s beginning to get to that point where the three of us may not be able to handle 100% of the day-to-day promotional activities. We’re not signing our names in stone to anybody at this point, but it doesn’t hurt to start building relationships.

Between the next promotional push and writing material for our second album, we’re going to begin concentrating less on live shows - at least for the summer. The last chance you’ll be able to catch us for another couple of months will be Friday, August 18 at Molly Malone’s.

Tell your friends, bring your friends, and share another evening with StD!
